March Market Insight

Special Edition: Things to do in Cambridgeshire this Spring

As the days grow longer and the first signs of spring appear across Cambridgeshire, now is the perfect time to explore what our beautiful corner of the region has to offer. From Easter egg trails in the countryside to boating on the River Cam and days out further afield, we’ve pulled together a few of our favourite local and nearby activities to inspire your spring adventures. From all of us at Peter Lane & Partners, we hope this edition of Market Insight helps you enjoy the season with family, friends, and a little more time outdoors.

Anglesey Abbey – Easter egg trails

Anglesey Abbey bursts into bloom in spring, with formal gardens, winding paths, and a peaceful mill. Over Easter, join their themed Easter egg trail, then enjoy a family picnic in the gardens or by the water.

Cambridge University Botanic Gardens snowdrop trails

Spring at the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens means carpets of snowdrops under shady trees, followed by early blossom and tulips. The paths are gentle and family‑friendly, perfect for a quiet stroll and a café stop.

Punting on the River Cam

Punting on the River Cam is a classic Cambridge springtime treat. Glide past colleges and willow trees, either self‑punting or chauffeured, then picnic by the bank with views of swans and rowing crews.

The Fitzwilliam Museum

The Fitzwilliam Museum offers world‑class art and fascinating antiques in a grand setting. It’s great for a relaxed cultural day, with family trails, activity sheets, and a café for a snack between rooms.

Johnsons of Old Hurst Zoo

Johnsons of Old Hurst Zoo mixes animals such as meerkats and lemurs with a working farm feel. There’s a play area and cafe, making it a gentle, compact day out without the crowds.

Working farm at Wimpole

The working farm at Wimpole shows traditional farming life with cows, sheep, and spring lambs. Watch demonstrations, feed animals, then enjoy a family picnic by the lakeside or meadows.

Hinchingbrooke Country Park – Easter egg trails

Hinchingbrooke Country Park offers lakes, woodlands, and wide skies. Over Easter there’s usually an Easter egg trail, followed by a picnic on the grassy banks for a full‑day family outing.

Grafham Water

Grafham Water is Cambridgeshire’s largest reservoir, ideal for lakeside walks, cycling, and fresh air. The open space and café make it easy to spread out a family picnic and enjoy a mini‑break by the water.

Houghton Mill & Watermeadows – Easter egg trails

Houghton Mill and its Watermeadows feel wonderfully peaceful in spring, with the old mill, river, and meadows. The National Trust often runs an Easter egg trail here, with a picnic by the water the perfect way to finish the visit.

Hammerton Zoo Park

Hammerton Zoo Park in Peterborough offers a compact mix of lemurs, meerkats, and farmyard animals. With a play area and picnic tables, you make a relaxed day of it.

Imperial War Museum Duxford

Imperial War Museum Duxford is a must‑visit for aviation and history lovers. Historic hangars and warplanes sit on a working airfield, with hands‑on exhibits and plenty of outdoor space for a picnic.
