The Story of Peter Lane & Partners
Peter Lane & Partners is a name synonymous with tradition and excellence in the Cambridgeshire property market, but when its doors first opened in 1990, the high street, and the marketplace itself, looked very different.
Do you remember estate agencies in the 1990s? Let us take you back in time. The digital age had not yet dawned, and the internet was still a glimmer in the eye of tech pioneers. Back then, property hunting was a journey fuelled by imagination and the guidance of a trusted local expert. Enter Peter Lane & Partners! It was 1990 and our story was just about to begin.
Forget sleek apps and instant online listings. Here at Peter Lane & Partners in the 90’s, properties were presented on hefty A4 printouts. Each one showcased a curated selection of Polaroids – grainy snapshots developed by a local photo developer, who two days later returned your photos, hopefully capturing the essence of a home (you got one shot at it!). A sunroom bathed in golden afternoon light in a charming Kimbolton cottage, a sprawling garden perfect for family games in St Ives – these weren’t just photographs, they were portals to a future filled with laughter, memories, and the warmth of home in the heart of our community.
In that pre-digital era, estate agency wasn’t a cold online transaction, but a human connection built on trust and shared aspirations. Back then, our agents weren’t armed with algorithms, but with a deep well of local knowledge and a knack for storytelling. And that is how we marketed properties without the internet!
“an estate agent that remembers a time when customer service had a very different meaning”
These early skills are what we call, Good Estate Agency. Those skills are still prominent in our business today. We have of course embraced the digital age, investing in our website, and marketing properties using social media too. We are fully digital, but, we still revert to our ‘human connection service’ and remain an estate agent that remembers a time when customer service had a very different meaning. We blend those core values that helped us to grow as an multi award-winning estate agency, with everything available to us in the digital age, #stillwinning!
Throughout the years we’ve always been deeply embedded within the heart of the local community. For over three decades, we’ve actively supported local charities, sports teams, organisations, and schools, giving back to the area we serve.
As well as being a local and community focussed business we are also a member of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), the Ombudsman for Estate Agents, and a founding member of the Move with Us National Network.
