4 Clever Ways To Declutter Your Home
There’s no shame in having a lot of belongings, but when it begins to look messy or even become dangerous, that’s when you should consider a little decluttering session – and if you have sighed to the word ‘decluttering’, don’t worry, we have got you covered.
As boring as clearing and organising your home sounds, the results are unexplainable. To help get you through the process, below are our four favourite and clever ways to declutter your home…
1. Assign yourself one item a day
Let’s start simple. Whether you don’t actually have a lot to get rid of or you will struggle to do it all at once, this may be the perfect option for you. Start off by binning or donating one item per day. Try look at things from a logical perspective – do you really need that item? How does it benefit your home? Does it suit the theme of that room? Could it be of better use? How old is that? etc. Consider the benefits of having that item in your home and the benefits of it not. See how it balances out and your decision is made.
After a month, there should be at least 30 items of clutter removed from your home, which is plenty of progress! Realistically, with 30 items gone, that’s an average of 5-6 items per room, which can make a big difference within your home!
2. Assign yourself one room a day
If you want to do it in less than a month, however, start with one room a day. In comparison to method one, this will take around 1-2 hours rather than 5 minutes. Furthermore, have a clear out, get rid of anything with no use or valuable contribution to your home, and then polish and hoover. By next week, your home should be spotless and completely clutter-free! The transformation can be quite extraordinary.
3. Try the 12-12-12 challenge
We heard about this challenge and completely loved it! It’s simple – every couple of months, perhaps during a big clean, the 12-12-12 challenge will give you the ability to remove 36 cluttering items from your home! All you need to do is, within this space of time, throw away 12 items, donate 12 items and then return 12 items to their rightful home (if they were borrowed etc.). It can also be turned into a fun little competition with you and the household!
4. The four-pile method
Last, but not least, the four-pile method! Do this within your own time e.g. one room a day, one room a week, however you want to! All you need to do is grab more or less ALL of your relevant and irrelevant cluttering items, and place them into four piles – a bin pile, a keep pile, a donate pile and a relocate pile. This creates the ultimate organisation within the room and makes sure you have considered every item in the house without missing any out.
