Local Peterborough information

Peterborough is a cathedral city that has a thriving arts community, with several events occurring throughout the year. The Key Theatre, built in 1973, is situated on the embankment of the River Nene and offers a variety of entertainment, from local productions to national touring shows. The local library is also home to a theatre named after the famous poet John Clare.

The River Nene passes through the city, with a historical cast iron railway bridge going over it right next to the train station, which is under an hour away from London Kings Cross. Peterborough Cathedral square is the main shopping location and has recently been renovated, with the introduction of water fountains.

The local football team is Peterborough United and they are nicknamed the POSH, playing their home games at the London Road stadium in the centre of town. The city also has an ice arena, which is open to the public to skate on when the local ice hockey team, the Peterborough Phantoms, aren’t playing. Speedway is also quite popular, with the local Peterborough Panthers participating in the top Elite League.
